Spanning Sync Uninstall

After a recent post about problems with Spanning Sync there seemed to be hope. Alas it was not to be. Following my post there was a comment indicating that Spanning Sync desired to try to make their software work. I spent another several hours getting the data they needed and emailed it away as instructed.

At the end of the day it is yet more time wasted on this product. There are people who test it and never have a problem. So it seems it does work for some, but if it doesn't work you're stuck. Now the trial has ended, the product has been uninstalled (itself a 45-minute process that hangs at every turn) and I'm only haunted by the ghosts of Spanning Sync. Although it's not installed it is still causing sync errors. Fantabilous!

Oh and now sync seems to be completely broken.

RE: Spanning Sync Uninstall

Josh,

I'm trying to investigate the problem you're experiencing but I never got a response from you to the last email I sent on March 19. I've extended your free trial by two weeks which should be more than enough time for us to get everything straightened out if you're still interested. Just let me know.

Thanks,
Charlie

re-sent email

Charlie,

I just re-sent the email response from 5:40 on March 19. I hate to have to communicate this way but apparently my earlier attempts to respond have not been successful.

The response of an example event problem you asked for is as follows:

"Sandy Valley Am. Legion Post Meeting @ 7pm" shows in Google Calendar as "Monthly on the first Tuesday" but in iCal "Every month on Date". Because of the problem a time back where SS duplicated events iCal shows two events."

Josh

Spanning Sync

Clearly, after reading through the mountains of e-mail, Spanning Sync is a bust. It definitely does not live up to its hype. This program was released a year earlier than it should have been. Too many bugs! And, we, the consumers are the ones that are left to sort it out, even though we have paid for software that does not work consistentl Ugh.

Sadly true

Sadly I have to agree completely with your assessment. Such promise so quickly dashed.

Spanning sync had worked

Spanning sync had worked pretty well in my limited testing, but I couldn't solve the rest of my gCal sync challenge. Without the whole solution Spanning Sync just didn't offer enough.

Time to uninstall. But wait -- how to uninstall? Uninstalling the very best OS X apps is a drag-and-drop operation, but Spanning Sync includes a PrefPane. I started looking for uninstall directions.

At first things looked bad. The Spanning Sync FAQ doesn't mention uninstalling. One blog post suggested the process is pretty ugly. A search on the Spanning Sync site for "uninstall" returned four irrelevant hits.

I downloaded 1.04 again, and that's where I found an uninstaller. It seems to have worked. So they have one, even if they don't document it.

OS X really ought to have an uninstaller, even if most apps can be uninstalled by deleting them. (Though apps typically leave support data scattered around, you can use spotlight to find them. In the case of an app like Spanning Sync, you need to switch to each user's account and run a search if you want a full cleanup.)

Alternative

Busysync 2.0 I have to say is working faster and more efficiently than spanning sync. I had to re-put all my google calendars to erase the spanningsync errors, but the logs were transparent and easy to access. I'm a license holder for both products, but will only using one. (Found this thread googling uninstall spanningsync actually)

Busysync

I'd have to agree. While I haven't done a lot with BusySync yet it seems to be stable, reliable and it performs well.

Spanning Sync deleted my Address Book!!!

We tried the trial at work, and it did very well until the trial ran out.
It asked to resolve syncing conflicts. I didn't realize the trial was over, so I check the box to "use Spanning Sync for future conflicts." Then, I got a lot of notices about the trial being over. Then it tried to run a sync and it ate all the vCards in Address Book. WTF?
I had them backed-up on my iPod, but I cannot get them off the iPod!
We all now use BusySync, yet SpanningSync still opens-up for scheduling conflicts! How do I get it off my machine??
