Miles continues electability campaign

April 6, 2004

Mike Miles continues his campaign to demonstrate he is more electable than current Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar. I'm not certain why Mr. Miles does not have this information on his website, if however one wants to get the schedule for March 2 it is listed in upcoming events on Miles' website. It will be a great day when candidates figure out that "we the people" are far more interested in WHAT they plan to do and HOW they plan to do it instead of smugly repeating over and over "call person x and ask them to define their positions." For example Mr. Miles, when you say that you "Supports teachers and public schools" what does that mean? I would suggest that better than 90% of the population would say they support teachers and public schools. Where we differ is on how that is best done. Please stop giving us soundbites and trying to tell Salazar what office he should seek, tell us instead what your plans are and let the voters decide based on information. That is the job of a true educator.

PHPLens

April 6, 2004

I've been doing some work with PHPLens today. It installs nicely on OS X. I'm running Aaron Faby's Complete PHP. Complete PHP does not include the Zend Optimizer which is required for PHPlens. It is easy to get the optimizer from the ZEND website and install it into the Complete PHP setup. The only thing it takes is changing a few of the configuration lines (which the installer asks you about when you run it).

Internet Cameras

April 2, 2004

I'm looking for anybody who has experience with internet cameras. The DLink DCS-5300 Internet Camera seems like a fairly good option at a reasonable cost. Are there better cameras out there?

The US News rankings of graduate schools came out yesterday. Our own UNLV Boyd School of Law ranks in the top 100 for the first time. Congratulations to all who put so much work into building the school into a prominent school so quickly.

The spin machine

March 26, 2004

I usually turn to NPR because I expect to get a balanced approach to stories. Certainly there will be people with agendas and times they will miss the mark. Unfortunately NPR proved this week they are no different when it comes to the spin machine. After more than 24 years of hosting Morning Edition Bob Edwards was tossed out by NPR this week. No reasons have been given other than wanting to take the show in a new direction. The NPR spin makes it sound like Edwards wanted to leave. Perhaps NPR should explore taking the show in a new direction - back to its roots.

On the phone with Qwest

March 25, 2004

I've been on the phone with Qwest for the last half an hour trying to get the phones fixed. Well, to be more correct I've been working with them for the last 60+ days. Each time I call it's the same routine.... "Yes Mr. Brauer we'll have that done within 3 business days..." Three days come and go and still no changes. Now that we're leaving town and I need to give the cell phone back to my employer it's a bigger deal. Dan in the CARE center said he saw why the orders didn't go through in the past. Why, oh why, would there not be something in the system to tell them to CALL me when the order didn't go through? Everyone has very good customer service skills at the Qwest center (professional, polite, controls the conversation well, listens).
