Battling the leaf cutters

With a refreshing cool front the last couple of days have been quite productive in getting the new trees in. Now we're battling the leaf-cutter bees whose efforts I would normally appreciate but their vigor in utilizing the greenery of our young plantings is becoming a little too damaging.

On a bit of a separate note our kitten Midsummer Night seems to have taken ill yesterday. After some more watching it appears to likely be an injury to the left front leg, but finding such a problem on a 6-week old kitten is difficult at best.

Montecore released

After serving a 10-day quarantine Montecore, the tiger who mauled entertainer Roy Horn was released Tuesday. A spokesman for the Mirage said Montecore will continue to live at the Secret Garden, an animal habitat at the Mirage.

Growing up I spent a great deal of time down the street from the white walls of Siegfried and Roy's house. The memorable roar of their famous large cats would fill the evening air.

Unwanted Guests

Upon Sarah's return from Texas this second time around we discovered that some unwelcome travelers have made the trip along with her. The one attached to her side was less painful than the critter feasting in her ear.

A trip to the doctor and then ENT specialist later and the critter is gone - not without a significant amount of discomfort.
