Dave Winer's Scripting News has a consistent theme about the presidential candidates' "embracing" new media but not really understanding it or figuring out new and innovative ways to use the internet. The failure of Colorado's challengers for Campbell's senate seat to find this innovation will be a deciding factor in Campbell's reelection.

Am I suggesting Campbell has figured it out? No. Campbell has the muscle and money to win an election fought in the traditional ways. Only innovation and finding a creative way to leverage Colorado's blogging community and to incorporate this into grass roots efforts with the senatorial campaigns will be enough. There is still time and maybe one of the candidates will figure it out.
